Reality Check: It is EVERYWHERE

March 2, 2025

Where did this come from?  That’s what I asked myself when I heard my daughter say that she doesn’t want to get fat.  Such a loaded statement.  It hits home in so many ways:

  • She heard somewhere that being “fat” is bad.
  • She thinks she is fat?
  • She’s only 9 years old!!!
  • Is this from school?  Videos? TV?
  • We don’t talk like this at home and I KNOW WHAT ITS LIKE TO FEEL THIS WAY so WHY!!!

I am an empowerment photographer. I help women see their true beauty and power. I live this, and I have taught it to my daughter. Yet somehow, society crept in, touched her beautiful heart, and created a perception that I didn’t want her to have.  A perception no one deserves to have implanted in them.

It’s so frustrating, and it hurts my heart.  I wonder when society made it so that women (and men) identify self-worth, strength, beauty, and power with weight.  Rubenesque women were a thing in the past.  Women used to exaggerate their figure with padded hips and hooped skirts. Hell, an ankle used to be sexy!!

So here we are, in a world where no matter how hard we try, we are, in fact, judged by our appearance, and that means that if you care or worry about acceptance, you might fall into the “I don’t want to get/be/stay fat.”  Well……..screw that.  Perception is also a choice.  You can choose to love the body you are in (which is what I will continue to teach my daughter).  You can choose to be healthy and still have hips and thighs and a belly (because healthy does not equal skinny).  You can choose to love and appreciate every shape around you and honor each person’s journey.  You can, in fact, CHOOSE YOU

So hear me when I say this and repeat after me:

  • I choose myself.
  • I am beautiful just as I am today.
  • I have always been beautiful.
  • My weight does not define me.
  • Other’s perceptions can kiss my sexy, very voluptuous ass
body positive shoot women of all sizes walking into the water

I said what I said.  So in the style of Eat, Pray, Love:  Eat that pizza and enjoy it.  No man (or woman) would turn you down when you are naked.  They are just happy to have YOU, in all your sexy goddess energy, with them.
